The Old Grey Whistle Test was a music programme which ran from 1971 to 1987 on BBC2. "16 Years Of Whistle Test" was the title given to the last edition of the programme, transmitted on New Year's Eve, 1987. For this final programme, Whistle Test returned to it's original tiny studio, Pres B in BBC Television Centre. Bob Harris, who had hosted the show throughout most of the 1970's, presents this final programme which is a compilation of items, presented roughly in chronological order.



As Bob Harris back announces it in his opening link, I have included a short film on the making of the video for A Touch Of Grey by the Grateful Dead which preceded the Whistle Test programme.

The music is grouped into three blocks. The first features items from the early days of the programme. The second covers artists or band members who had died since the inception of the programme. These two sequences are medleys, not complete performances. The third, much longer sequence is a more general collection of longer items from 1974 to 1985. Included are some items taken from concert footage, not recorded by the BBC. There are also a few of the quirky videos which were made specially for the programme.
